Even though most people today understand that crimes happen, but never prepare for the likelihood that they themselves will end up a crime victim. Too many people take for granted that the police will defend them if they are confronted by a criminal. 1. Prepare proactively. Instead of waiting for an attack to occur, do everything you can to prepare for the possibility. Take these steps now, instead of wishing that you had a stun gun or a personal alarm when you need it most.

Too many people think that the need to use such devices is a long ways off. If they are lucky enough to have pepper spray in their bag when somebody dangerous approaches them, they have no idea what they are doing and squander precious seconds just figuring out how to employ it. 3. Maintain situational awareness. This does not mean being paranoid that every person on the street is out to get you, but you do need to be alert of your surroundings.
