Adobe CS3 - a threat to OS X users

By: Roberto Garabell

We all expect the software we use to be reliable and most important, not to compromise the security of our system, especially when the given software comes from Adobe. Well OS X users might have a surprise when installing Adobe Version Cue CS3 Server and having the firewall disabled.

There is a bug within the install process for Adobe Version Cue CS3 Server, that disables the Mac system firewall in order to setup port configuration for the server but 'forgets' to turn it back on. This can leave Mac systems unprotected and get unsuspecting users into trouble. In order to avoid this, Adobe has released a Security Advisory that goes trough the steps need to restore security, but the real extent of the damage is not yet known.

Adobe Version Cue CS3 Server is part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard, Design Premium, Web Standard, and Web Premium so there is a serious number of potentially affected systems out there. Also we should keep in mind that CS3 was highly expected by everyone out there and I don't think many of us would read a boring Security Advisory before installing the suite.

So all in all, Mac users beware.
