It's quite common for people starting out to go through a period of mistakes. The page you send your traffic when they click through has to make sense to them based on the banner design and copy.Banners that are highly unusual will only bring you a lot of untargeted traffic which is not why you're doing this. An ad that has some kind of game or trick behind it is an UNtargetd traffic magnet. Professional banners that look appropriate and have compelling copy with a call to action will always outperform the rest.
Banner advertising is like all other forms of advertising in that you have to learn how to do it the right way - because there is a wrong way! There is much more to learn beyond the scope of this article, though. Don't worry about making blunders and losing a little money; happens all the time - keep moving straight ahead. It's just that when you make the mistakes that really should not be made only because you were not sufficiently prepared... well, that's on you, pal. Hence the importance of your banner advertising education.
