While browsing through a second-hand book shop, I discovered a very distinctive book that brought a whiff of nostalgia to the 'Sensible Previous Days'. The book that caught my attention may be a concise sampler of "The Previous Farmer's Almanac" an informative publication which arrived on the

scene in the first years of our fledging democracy.

From its very starting, the 'Previous Farmer's Almanac' played an necessary part within the lifetime of the citizens of our nation. In many of the homes of the primary settlers and early pioneers, the 'Almanac' and also the Bible constituted the entire library.

'The Old Farmer's Almanac', founded by Robert B. Thomas in 1792 for the year 1793, is an annual publication that serves as a calendar for the approaching year; and includes such data like outstanding dates and events, movements of heavenly bodies, sunrises and sunsets, facts about geography and history, weather predictions, the signs of the zodiac, first-aid recommendation, conundrums (short, humorous questions and answers) and amusing anecdotes.

For the farmer's wife, the "Old Farmer's Almanac" offers helpful advise on the changing life on the farm; it gives recipes of Yank concoctions like apple pie, and fine baked beans. It advises within the baking of bread, pickling of beef, distillation of cider etc.. The
Almanac offers tips on new helpful time-saving inventions and innovations: - "The most effective churn currently in use is supposed to what is referred to as the 'cradle churn'... and answers the purpose of creating butter uncommonly well."
