Brand Building Relies on Logos

By: Angela Chenoweth

The Market Place Expects a Noticeable Logo for Each Firm. Everyone Knows The Golden Arches- How To Design A Memorable Logo Even toddlers can identify companies by their logos. Children as young as two or three have been able to identify trucking companies and restaurants as they are riding in the car with their parents. Conversely, the father was keen to another truck brand and exhibits the bow tie logo with pride on his apparel and furniture.

Logo's aren't just for the biggest companies you know, they are also a brand recognition. Brand recognition is key and many small companies should try and establish their brand in their local area when they begin operation. Include it in your business signature, on your car, in your phone book ad, in coupons, on business cards, on stationary and in your website's news section.

It is relatively easy to use your logo, but creating an effective logo is not a simple task. References on the Internet go into a few simple errors as far as logos are concerned. Do not use clip art to make your logo. The problem with clip art is the familiarity that most of us have of many different designs. You should be especially careful to avoid using any art that would make someone think of another company. Right away, it occurred to me that the business was not doing so great and that it would be able to fare so much better with a different logo.

The next easy mistake you could make is only including text in your logo. With precious little eye appeal, simple text, also including monograms, usually signifies that it is very easily forgotten, which is counterproductive to the purpose of having a logo in the first place. Even as some businesses have effectively utilized logos with just text, it is an incredibly hard thing to accomplish.

On the other hand, you should be very careful not to make your logo terribly complex. You need to be careful in not over complicating a logo design with special effects and pictures. It is good to make the logo for your business look appealing in black and white, initially. If you use your logo in a newspaper or telephone book, it will most likely be printed in black and white. Even if you choose a brightly colored logo it could be copied or faxed at some point, whether you know about it or not. Therefore it's important that your logo still look good even if it's converted to black and white on a fax machine copy.

It is sometimes recommended that a professional design the logo so you can avoid all these mistakes and make your logo memorable. There was a sweepstakes game conceived back in 2000, and one of the people they had on the team to help develop their logo was a highly talented graphic designer. The logo they created back then still continues to meet the criteria listed by experts today: it's simple, yet fun, and still memorable. On top of that, it appears terrific in black and white, and not just in red and green.

We considered ourselves very lucky to have an expert graphic designer on our team. You are just as lucky if you know someone who is a graphic designer. If not, shop around and find a graphic designer to help design a logo. It isn't very difficult to find a graphic designer. You can see what I am saying if you Google the word logo on your computer.

There is a website columnist who suggests not to hire the fist couple of designers you find in your search results. Compile a list of four or five artists whose work you admire and whose fees are within your budget and compare their work. Also consider customer service, the quality of their technical support, their refund and payment policy, the number of revisions you are allowed before they charge you, and what formats they use for the finished piece.

I always recommend employing local artists whenever you can, and several graphic designers and advertising consultants have listings in the locality. Remember that the creation of your logo is an investment, no matter who you choose to design it. Your logo is a reflection of your business and your business conduct and cheap logos won't do you any justice. With a little thought and a good designer, you will be able to create an image that stays in people's minds and will make your business recognizable all across the country.
