Brazilian Fightwear For The Discerning Fighter

By: Jerry Buza

A celebrated martial art form like jiu jitsu which is a self defense system enjoys acceptance among people of many different countries. The most common moves in jiu jitsu are grabbing, wrestling and choke holding which mostly land at least one person on the floor. For this reason, among many others, the most apt brazilian fightwear has to be worn while practicing jiu jitsu.

The core belief of this combat form is that even a tinier person can defeat a larger enemy using tactical leverage and proper technique. These include joint locking and choke holding. These and the other moves in Jiu Jitsu entail swift thinking and movement on one's part.

The right kind of clothing is to be worn for the corresponding kind of technique. For tournaments and events, the universal uniform code has to be strictly adhered to. The clothes have to be light enough without compromising on protection. All the pressure that the moves may put on the joints of the clothing must be withstood and it must not tear easily.

The fightwear has to be roomy but not too loose. This will ensure that all the movements of the hands and legs are unhindered. If it is also heat resistant and absorbent, the fighter stays cool. Pre shrunk fightwear offer best value for the price.

Different kinds of events require different kinds of fightwear. For grappling, shorts with drawstrings and velcro are used. They have more leg space and are convenient for the fighter. A thicker collar helps make the kimono hard to hold on to. So, it is easier to get out of a grab. A rubber collar may also help protect the neck and is again, harder to get a hold of and maintain a grip.

The International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation has laid down guidelines to be followed regarding the uniforms to be worn at events. For no-gi, black board shorts with a white or black rash guard. At least ten percent of the uniform should indicate the color of the rank or belt. The board shorts may be of Lycra for women but no other colors may be used. Nevertheless, a team logo or any other logo can be used on the shorts. New fiber infused printing helps maintain the print for a long time.

The uniform should be comfortable to the wearer. The shorts must have a crotch that is satisfyingly stitched and should not keep riding up with movement. A seamless crotch in stretchable shorts offers best comfort. The material, if lightweight will be more agreeable both while fighting and at the time of weigh ins. While training, if the uniform is lightweight, it will keep the fighter cool.

Fightwear sizing is different from the regular clothes sizing. Specific kimono sizing charts are available online. Accessories like gloves, shin pads and mitts may also be purchased. These can be bought as a set for some savings.
