Choosing between New Wheelchair Vans or Wheelchair Van Rentals

By: Mike Davis

There is no doubt that with the economic recession in place, you have to make sure that all the things that you spend on should be all worth it. Many of the stuffs that were considered a luxury before are thought of as a need in today's fast paced life. A befitting example is vehicles.
Owning a means of transportation was part of the status quo of a person back in the olden days. When you could buy a car, this meant that you had much money to spare. With the kinds of car financing available nowadays, anybody who has a stable job can get their own vehicle. Of course, having a vehicle is integral if you want to get things done especially with the distance of your office from your home. Traveling to other important places will also not be a problem with a vehicle at your disposal.
The same is true for handicapped individuals. More than the regular people, their need for a means of transportation are even greater, given that common cars cannot accommodate them without a companion to help them load and unload. Having a car will mean being able to go to places they need to be and a chance to broaden their horizons. Thankfully, with the advent of the ingenious wheelchair came a means to transport this device to places. Thus, the so-called wheelchair vans are available for handicapped people. One can opt to buy their own van or turn to rentals. The following are the pros and disadvantages of the two options:
New wheelchair vans. The main drawback of this option is that you should be ready to shell out more of your savings during your purchase. This means that you have to save first before being able to benefit from wheelchair vans. But if you have much money to spare then this will be the best option for you especially if you live alone. Another advantage about getting your own van is that you will be able to choose from the various features which will suit you best. Among the more important specifications are the lowered floor which accommodates the handicapped passenger and driver, special headroom that contains cumbersome equipment such as the wheelchair, wheelchair tie downs that maintain the safety of the passenger, and many others. What is good about having your own van is that you have a means of transportation whenever you need one.
Wheelchair van rentals. If you travel for only a number of times during a year and during specific times then hooking up with a van rental will be a good idea. Though this option will cost you lesser when thinking of the now, it will be more expensive in the long run. The drawback is that if you have emergency trips, you are not assured of getting a rental because of the tendency to have no availability. Be sure to check out the rental vans before choosing a rental service and to ask about the maintenance they do.
