By: Radim Krizan

One time in a while, everyone wants to lie back and relax. Merely to sleep and get a relaxation in sweet restfulness. Have a massage, enjoy one's time. The West Bohemian Spa Triangle is a perfect place for the regeneration of your soul & body.

The long-subsided volcanic activity on the periphery of the Slavkov Forest was accompanied by the birth of mineral springs that have completed the zone of West Bohemia famous all-around the world. While Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) , founded by the celebrated Czech ruler Charles 4, is the most distinguished spa city in the region, there are several other no less exceptional spa towns in the area that are extremely admired with both patients and travelers. Though the positive outcomes of the regional springs had apparently become recognized in as early as the 10th century, spas did not actually develop until much later on, in the nineteenth century. At the same time, Franzienbad was established at the very end of the eighteenth century, followed by the founding of Marianske Lazne, as a result completing the "Spa Triangle". Domestic and foreign visitors alike have been approaching to get pleasure from the indigenous mineral springs for hundreds of years; the visitors' book of the spa resorts contain the names of crowned heads such as the English ruler Edward VII, Napoleon III, prominent composers such as Fryderyk Chopin and Richard Wagner, writers such as Johann W. Goethe, Mark Twain and Franz Kafka, or for illustration the esteemed Moravian-born founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud. But there is more. You can as well get pleasure from the rich cultural program, set off for biking, mountain climbing and visiting the attractions trips, play tennis & golf, ride a horse, discover water sports in summer season & cross-country skiing in winter.

Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad / Karlsbad)

Karlsbad is the best branded spa city located in West Bohemia. It was established nearly 1350 by the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, Charles 4. Its majestic roads and colonnades are surrounded by serene forested hills crisscrossed by hiking and biking ways that are perfect for pleasant walks all time round.
A full of activity cultural events calendar, many festivals and international conferences put up Karlovy Vary the largest and liveliest spa town in the Czech Republic visited not only by the spa-guests but also celebs. Karlovy Vary achieved its fame also thanks to its known herbal liqueur known as Becherovka (nicknamed "The thirteenth Spring"), Mattoni mineral water, unique spa wafers, and Moser crystal work.
The curative waters from the springs in the valley of the Tepla River have been used by people from time immemorial - both for consuming as well as bathing.

Marianske Lazne (Marienbad)

The city of Marianske Lazne locates in a beautiful wide valley in West Bohemia, 628 meters above sea level. An approximately 20 km wide strip of forest with various mountain climbing paths passes right through the spa town.
Marienbad enjoys an outstanding reputation around the world both for its treatment methods and effective natural remedial sources, as well as for its scenic, delightful surroundings. Almost 100 old springs have been discovered in and all-around the town, all with great concentration of CO2. Some were revealed as early as in the 16th century.
A sincere jewel among the local neoclassical buildings is the spa colonnade constructed in 1889. The spa area is dominated by the so-called 'Singing Fountain' entertaining the passers-by with music and illumination performances.
Marienbad (Marianske Lazne) launched its 1st spa season in 1808, but quickly started to be a trendy resort among Europe's elite. Among its customers were English Ruler Edward VII., Polish composer and pianist Fryderyk Chopin and German poet Goethe.
The area spas specialize in treating musculoskeletal disorders, as well as diseases of the urinary tract, kidney and gynecological problems. The therapies are based on natural resources - cold ferrite acidulous water, natural gas, CO2 and mud.

Frantiskovy Lazne (Franzienbad)

Frantiskovy Lazne, established in 1793, is a world known spa city located in the western part of the Czech Republic. Thankfulness to its neoclassical spa buildings and pavilions the township preserved the unique atmosphere of the early twentieth century & is regarded as one of the most picturesque spa town in the country.
The area offers moderate climate, clean atmosphere as well as no noise city life. Many parks all-around the town with its promenades and musicians are a perfect place for enjoyable walks. All these issues add to the curing effects of the local mineral springs that each year attract numerous spa-guests.
