ESP Guitar: history of ESP

Electric Sound Products, known as ESP, developed in Tokyo Japan in 1975 as a business that provided custom replacement parts for guitars. Nonetheless, the first ESP guitar was not developed until 1976. ESP Guitars and replacement components continued to be offered exclusively in Japan for nearly 10 years prior to moving into the U.S. market. In 1983 their replacement parts were made obtainable in the United States. Finally, in 1984 their electric guitars made their American emergence.

The next considerable guitarist to discover ESP Guitars was George Lynch of Dokken, while searching for guitar parts when he was on tour in Japan. When George discovered that ESP crafted custom electric guitars, the model "Kamikaze" was made for him. The Kamikaze was the first signature model to be made.

Soon after, more musicians started to take notice of ESP and started playing their electric guitars in the late 80's. Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield of Metallica were 2 of the bigger names.

In fact, speakin of James Hetfield, an ESP electric guitar which he played during Metallica first began to turn into popular, got the ESP Corporation into some legal problems. The guitar he played, called the EXP, was a replica of the Gibson Explorer. Regardless that guitar companies were selling reproductions of their guitars for many years, Gibson decided to sue ESP. The standard of the EXP guitar was so excellent that people had been buying them like crazy and this was allegedly cutting into the gross sales of Gibson's guitars. In the end, ESP lost the proceedings and changed their design to the currently recognized 'EX' design.

In mid 2002, ESP gross sales began to grow at a fast rate making them one of many fastest rising corporations at that time. This upsurge in gross sales was directly connected to Fender Guitars buying out Jackson Guitars. Jackson was the company that ESP Guitars was competing with in the 1980's and 90's the buy-out of Jackson Guitars, lots of the big profile axemen hopped ship and went over to ESP Guitars. Musicians like Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, discovered it was a simple transition to move over to ESP Guitars due to the top quality and comparable thrash-metal aggresive designs.

ESP guitars are nonetheless highly regarded today. During the 2008 Winter NAMM show, ESP introduced over fifty all-new guitar and bass models.
