An Easy Candy Fundraiser requires a little advance planning and that's about it.
The problem many people have with candy fundraisers is buying too much or too little candy. So, before starting your candy fundraiser here is a quick lesson in terminology.
You buy candy by the case. You sell candy by the carrier. Carriers are the smaller handled boxes that you see people walking around with. They also make good counter displays.
Most cases of fundraising candy come with 4 carriers of candy. The number of candy bars in a carrier varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and even the specific candy pack from a manufacturer. Typically, though, candy carriers come with between 40 and 54 candy bars each.
In a typical candy bar fundraiser each seller will sell one or two carriers of candy. Occasionally we see people sell a case or two each. But for planning purposes we suggest you assume each seller will sell 1 or 2 carriers.
Before you commit to your candy purchase you should poll everyone in your group and review with them the candy fundraising program you have chosen. Get each person to commit to the number of carriers they are willing to sell before you place your order. If possible get that committment in writing.
Some groups like large sports leagues actually include the retail price of a carrier or two of candy into the registration fee. That way the player or family can choose to sell the candy to recover their money or they can simply get a bunch of candy to eat.
The worst thing to happen in a candy fundraiser is to have a ton of candy left and unsold when your sale is over. The second worst thing is to barely under buy and then have to purchase more cases later. Candy is quantity sensitive. The more cases you purchase at one time the lower the price. If you want to reorder a smaller quantity later you may have to pay more per case than you did on the original order.
