Emergency Decluttering Tips - Company Is Coming And There Is No Time To Loose!

By: Marlee Dorst

An emergency decluttering needs to be done around your house, doesn't it? Your house is a mess, and out of town company is arriving tomorrow. You feel your blood pressure rising just LOOKING around. Your house is a complete DISASTER, and you know it is not fit to be seen. How can you save yourself from the embarassment? What can you do with all the clutter in your home that looks so nasty? You need to start an emergency decluttering. Here are a few suggestions that should save your sanity and assist you with your emergency decluttering!

- Walk around the house and look for obvious and not-so-obvious GARBAGE! Get rid of doubles of things, and also boxes or packaging that you think that you will need IF you move "in the future". Be brutal and get rid of broken things that you have been hanging onto for "sentimental reasons". You won't miss them.

- Fill up a box with items for a charitable organization, and then drop it off before you change your mind!

- Pack up your surplus of photo frames for an emergency decluttering of your shelves and table-tops.. Even if you are planning to bring them out again as soon as your visitors leave, doing so will give a much less cluttered look to your house.

- Lift everything off the floor of one room, wash it, and then only put back the items that actually belong there.

- Toss your old magazines, newspapers, and catalogues into the recycle bin. If you find later you miss something, it is always available online.

- Use decorative bins. These are available everywhere these days and are very handy as they appear both attractive and orderly where-ever you place them, and they can conceal a whole lot of miscelaneous "stuff".

- Go through the bathroom and load at LEAST a shoebox with medications, lotions, and make-up that are past expiry date and toss them into the garbage.

- If you are sorely lacking cupboard space, purchase a pantry cupboard with doors and stick it in a spare bedroom. These make great emergency closets, and you can pack (or hide) a LOT of things on the shelves. Close the doors and you will be amazed at how much you decluttered!

There are certain times when you need to get rid of clutter fast. Whether for emotional reasons such as your in-laws coming to visit tomorrow, or because you happen to be all of a sudden utterly TIRED OF being self-conscious about your messy house, these emergency decluttering tips can help you clear the clutter for good... or at least conceal the clutter nicely away for a quick fix!
