Emergency Decluttering Tips - How To Get A Clutter-Free House In Short Order!

By: Mark Drest

You glance at your calendar, you look around your house, and you realize that you need to do some emergency decluttering. You wonder how in the WORLD it got so cluttered, so messy. Your house is a complete DISASTER, and you have special guests coming to stay! What are you going to do? How are you going to handle all the untidiness in your home that looks so unattractive? You have no choice but to do an emergency decluttering. Here are several tips designed to save your sanity and assist you with your emergency decluttering!

- Go around the house and search for not-so-obvious and obvious GARBAGE! Throw out doubles of things, and also boxes or packaging that you think you will need IF you move "in the future". Be tough on yourself and get rid of damaged items that you've been holding onto for "sentimental reasons". You won't miss them.

- Fill up a bin with things for charity, and then drop it off before you change your mind!

- Box up your surplus of photo frames for an emergency decluttering of your coffee tables and selves. Even if you are planning to take them out again after your visitors leave, it will present a much less cluttered look to your house.

- Lift everything off the floor in one room, wash it, after which you only replace the things that really belong there.

- Toss your old magazines, newspapers, and catalogues into the recycle bin. You can always find what you need on-line.

- Get some of those pretty decorative box sets. These are available everywhere these days and are very useful as they look both nice-looking and orderly where-ever you put them, plus they can hide a whole lot of random "things".

- Search through the bathroom and fill up at LEAST a shoebox with make-up, lotions, and hair-products which are past their expiry date and get rid of them.

- If are needing more storage space purchase a pantry cupboard with doors and set it along a wall. These make great emergency closets, and you can fit (or hide) a LOT of things on their shelves. Close the doors and you'll be amazed at how quickly you declutter an area!

The need for an emergency decluttering happens to everyone at some point. Whether for emotional reasons such as your mother coming to stay next weekend, or because you happen to be all of a sudden completely through with being self-conscious about your messy house, these emergency decluttering tips can help clear the clutter for good... or at the very least hide the clutter nicely away for a quick fix!
