Ergonomics of Laptop Stress - Changes in Technology Can Cause Stress

By: nikky Howard

Ergonomics: the study of the problems of folks adjusting to their atmosphere; esp. the science that seeks to adapt work or operating conditions to suit the worker.

By its terribly nature, "High Tech" means that constant transitions and amendment, and this suggests consistently high levels of stress from adapting to these changes. Our primitive mechanisms for adjusting to vary are usually over-whelmed by the High-Tech world of amendment that we have a tendency to would like to measure and work within. Nearly everybody agrees that negative transitions such as; job insecurity because of downsizing ("right-sizing," etc.), or money insecurities (ie mastercard debt, mortgages, school fees, stock market swings, etc), or health challenges (ie, illness, chronic illness, injury, emotional symptoms of stress, etc.), or relationship insecurities (divorce, dating, family role changes, 2 income families), and international or regional political upheavals (as presented "up shut and personal" in our homes by TV,) are viewed as stressful with potential downsides to your health and well-being.
"Smart" Change: Same Results
Transitions and amendment don't seem to be always bad. However, even positive modification can create responses among our primitive response mechanisms which will lead to negative symptoms of physical and emotional stress. Just within the past 10 years, the high-tech advances have increased expectations of productivity and usually time commitments to responding to the pressures from work. Do you keep in mind life before: Fax machines, Voice Mail, E-Mail, Cellular Phones, Cellular Faxes, Instantaneous International Business Requests, and yes, even the Internet???? Positive you can turn them off, ignore them, and management them (?) but the pressures of response and maintaining with the changes of hardware/software technologies are still there, whether or not you are doing bury your head within the sands of DENIAL....
To prove a point about how positive change/stress can be dramatically unhealthy for your health, I need to inform one brief story. After I was growing up, I read a newspaper account of a man who suffered from smart fortune! The story browse that a man had won the Irish Sweepstakes. He had won a fortune.... $one hundred,000, which back in those days was a ton of cash! He was therefore overjoyed along with his sensible luck that he celebrated in an unfortunate way... he died of a heart attack! How several people do you recognize who get a replacement job or relationship, and wind up paying the price of this positive stress?
Within the past 10 years, people are developing new symptoms of this technology. Eye strain, back strain, wrist/hand strain, neck problems, even weight and substance abuse will increase can be loosely linked to long hours in the globe of computers and technology. There are even new industries cropping up to require advantage of the needs for the health and safety of the daily computer user and high tech workers.
Who reading this article can say that our primitive response to fret from millions of years of adaptation and survival has been in a position to stay up with these past few decades of change? Have you evolved a replacement midbrain response to the previous Flight/Fight Response? If we tend to cannot amendment the planet around us, or the individuals with whom we do business, or the folks we tend to have to measure with, or the world changes that have an effect on us, then we will a minimum of perceive this dilemma and avoid becoming a VICTIM to these changes! We tend to do have CONTROL over the way WE RESPOND to those changes.
Awareness is half the battle! Apprehend how YOU respond to worry and what in your life is inflicting this transitional stress.... THEN, you need to develop daily habits of wellness to stay you backed away from the "edge" of falling into the negative physical and emotional responses to stress. You'll be able to GET BACK in CONTROL! You'll be able to stop, or a minimum of minimize, symptoms of stress such as: headaches, backaches, neck aches, high blood pressure, panic, anxiety, several stomach problems, sexual dysfunctions, probably reduce auto-immune problems like allergies or some varieties of arthritis, sleeping issues, bruxism, TMJ, etc.... The emotional symptoms like: loss of concentration, withdrawal (depression), anxiety, being accident prone, memory loss, poor motivation, poor communication, poor performance, some learning disabilities, etc can be linked to stress and reduced, if not eliminated, by awareness/lifestyle changes. Key employees can be given govt/personal coaching and this can stop them from turning into liabilities because of inefficiency, poor productivity, or worse re-training replacements for these key people. This is as true for families as it is clearly true for companies.
The remedies are as wide as the variables that have created the problems. But, most people perform their functions better after they involve themselves in regular (daily) self-care that always includes: Relaxation (stress management (tapes, exercises, individual counseling)), Physical exercise (5x/wk for thirty minutes+), and proper nutrition (that has supplementation of minerals and anti-oxidants that are NOT simply found in useable forms within the high-tech processed or mass made foods that we tend to eat.
