Find out When it is Best to Improve Your Sperm Count

Raising a man's sperm can assist to improve the chances of conception. A sperm count is the amount of sperm present in a given sample of semen. Small quantities of sperm can lead to or may make getting pregnant more difficult. If your sperm count is low, however, it does not necessarily mean that you are infertile. It may simply mean that certain lifestyle or environmental factors should be changed or avoided to improve sperm count.
Men who are trying to conceive should avoid using illegal drugs and are strongly advised to stop smoking. This may help to increase sperm count and lead to an improvement in overall health, which is also vital in a successful birth. Quitting drinking or drinking only moderately may also help.
Avoid processed foods as well. Switch to a diet rich in protein, whole grains and vegetables. In some cases, hormones released during periods of stress may damage sperm. Decrease your level of stress by allotting periods of relaxation, exercise and cut out all things that bring on stress. Be careful, though. Over-exercising may be detrimental to fertility. Similarly, exercises that place stress on the testicles (cycling) may be detrimental to fertility and sperm count.
It's also been suggested that sperm count is highest in the morning. Men with low sperm counts may consider having sex in the morning or early afternoon hours to improve their chances of conceiving. Timing intercourse with ovulation cycles may also help. Going two or three days between ejaculations may help to improve sperm count. Couples should speak with a fertility specialist for more information about coordinating intercourse with ovulation cycles.
Certain supplements have also been shown to help improve sperm production and/or motility. Zinc, selenium, amino acids, Vitamin C and Vitamin E may be helpful in improving sperm health. The amino acid L-carnitine may be very helpful in improving sperm motility and, therefore, improving the chances that more sperm reach the egg.
Following a semen analysis, the fertility specialist may suggest treatments or lifestyle changes that may help to increase sperm count and fertility. In certain situations, it may be helpful to explore possible procedures such as in vitro fertilization and other artificial reproductive technologies (ART) that may help infertile couples successfully conceive.
Couples experiencing infertility should ensure that both partners are tested or diagnosed for potential sympoms of infertility. Special exams, testing and questions may help narrow down the cause of infertility, which is often the initial phase in overcoming the condition.
