Within a French dictionary a giclee (zhee-CLAY) will probably be defined as meaning to spray or squirt. Then again other people might verbalize "giclee" doesn't suggest "to spray, that "Giclee" is not an infinitive and that it is the feminine of the past participle. So if there is some argument over what the term Giclee means I feel that the intent of the term is to define a printed copy of an original artwork. The range of color for giclees is much beyond that of lithography, and by viewing compared with each other you can see that the details are far crisper in giclee.
Lithography prints make use of tiny dots of four colors--cyan, magenta, yellow and black; to fool the eye into viewing assorted hues and shades. Colors are "formed" by printing different size dots of those four colors.

Again Giclees use inkjet technology, although more advanced than your desktop printer. The process employs six colors--light cyan, cyan, light magenta, magenta, yellow and black--of lightfast, pigmented inks and finer, more abundant, and replaceable print heads resulting in a wider color gamut, and a chance to employ various media to print on. The ink is sprayed onto the page, essentially mixing the color to the page to create exact shades and hues.

Giclees have been firstly developed being a proofing technique for lithograph printing presses, it also became apparent that the presses were having a hard time delivering the quality and color among the giclee proofs. They evolved into the more admired form over lithography's and are actually the less expensive and more common method to yield a copy print. These are in demand by collectors for their fidelity and quality, and preferred by galleries because they do not have to become created in enormous quantities by way of their significant layout of funds and storage.
In addition, Giclees are produced directly from a digital file that is made by scanning the original. This would save years of detail-robbing negatives and printing plates, as with accepted printing.
