Guide When Giving Baby Developmental Toys

By: Norman Kirby

When giving toys to babies, you should not only buy what s cute or what s cheap. It is very important that you choose baby developmental toys which the child would not only appreciate but also learn from. Remember that babies are developing creatures. You should give them everything that is appropriate and matches their age, including their toys. In this article, you will learn about some tips on how to pick the right ones for your baby.

If your baby is still a newborn (0-3 months), he or she can't do a lot yet but just look up and practice come hand grabs. At this age, he or she should like visual stimulation whether from you or from whatever he or she sees up. He or she should also be quick to respond to sounds.

Anyway, considering all these things, the toys you should buy for him or her should be bright. It should also be light, soft, and easy to hold. You may also buy ones which have sounds or some kind of melody. Think of rattles and baby mobiles. They can be a lot of fun for your newborn.

Now, once your child grows a bit older than three months old, the baby developmental toys you should buy must vary. Anytime between this age and seven months, your child should be able to start rolling over and hold his or her head up for long periods. He or she would be more interested in various colors and may also try to duplicate the sounds he or she hears around.

To encourage him or her, you should buy toys which are colorful and musical. If possible, buy talking toys too, so he or she can learn to mimic more. You can also start buying teething toys and those which can fit his or her wrists because this is also during this period when babies become curious about their hands.

Moving further, between seven and ten months, your child would be able to sit up for a long time without any difficulty. He or she may even start standing while holding on a rail. He or she may also start pronouncing two-syllable words like ma-ma and pa-pa. Because of this, you should go for more advanced talking toys and other music-producing items. At this age too, he or she would be very fascinated by mirror images so you should also invest in toys which are made of reflective materials that can mirror images.

Finally, between nine and twelve months, your baby should have already grown a lot. Around this period, he or she can already use his or her hands well. Due to this milestone, the baby developmental toys you should give him or her must involve stackable objects that can be built and knocked down. He or she would surely love to build and rebuild them over and over. More over, since his or her speech should have also developed a lot around this time, you can buy more musical toys that have more complex tune and lyrics.
