Having The Hottest In Television System - Plasma And LED

By: Roger Williams

Gone are the days when TVs consisted of a picture tube that threw images onto a screen. In the modern era there are television sets such as the Plasma and the LED which provide sharper and brighter images than ever before. However, considering how highly they are priced, it is often tough to make the final decision even though the market has so many different brands, designs and features to offer in both the segments.

The problem that many buyers face is whether to go for the LED segment or the Plasma segment and this debate is something that occupies the buyer's mind for a long time. Before comparing the two technologies, it would suffice to say that the verdict is still not out. Both have pros and cons and it is on the individual to make the final decision.

The LED television, these are crystal base TVs that sandwich a layer of light sensitive crystals in between two glass panels to make the screen. It is similar to the LCD monitors while giving better quality, digital high definition to TV audiences. The plasma TV is made of millions of gas cells that are arranged in between two glass panels and when current flows through them they light up. The prices of the LED are higher than that of Plasma TVs as of now because Plasma screens have been in production longer than LEDs so the facilities are already there.

The pros of the LED over that of Plasma include its screen brightness and resolution, its portability factor and its lack of issues. First off, the LED screen has a greater resolution giving a brighter image with a backlight that illuminates the entire surface. Moreover, this resolution is the highest in today's world. Next, the LED has a better portability and handling factor thanks to its sleeker designs. Finally unlike the Plasma, LED does not suffer from issues of screen burn in that plague the Plasma screens.

On the other hand, Plasma screens get one up over the LED in matters of viewing angel, contrast ratios, color fields and of course the price. Being more vibrant than LEDs they offer better pictures with greater contrast settings and more color depth. Moreover, unlike the limited viewing angles of the LED TV sets, Plasma has a tube TV's viewing angles allowing for more use of sitting space. The difference in quality of image is just marginal over that of LED.

Although Plasma is a good choice currently, if you are taking a TV keeping the future in mind then the LED might be a better option. Moreover as time progresses on the price parity between the two should decrease making this debate worthless.
