You will need a lot of expertise to be able to illustrate yourself and if you are not someone accomplished at doing illustrations, then there are some other options that you need to take.

It will change the entire design and it can be quite an easy thing to do. But before relaying it on to someone, it is better to notify your client about the extra costs of illustration. Unique illustrations are never going to come free - regardless of who will make it, the client is going to have to pay an additional amount to cover the employd illustrator. Even if you do the illustration yourself, you should charge extra depending on whether or not the client needs all the right to your work. Simple icons and shapes can probably be simpler for a designer to try on their own but if the illustration is something more complicated than that, you will need additional help. When hiring an illustrator it is a good idea to see their portfolio and figure out if they are what you are looking for.

If you cannot hire an illustrator for some reason and need everything to be concluded quicker, you can take the help of stock illustration sites. Buying stock illustrations might not be less pricey than hiring an illustrator because even that stock image will cost you, but it is beyond any doubt going to be quicker. Before you employ the illustrator or buy the stock illustration though, it is important to discuss this with your client and let them know the extra costs of buying those illustrations that they require. When you use a visual from a stock illustration site, it is crucial to check out the contract and see if you are getting the entire rights to the illustrations that you demand. Read the whole contract and see if there are any limitations you should be knowledgeable of. Stock illustrations CDs can be used in a very much alike way.

When sending out briefs to illustrators, be very particular about what you or your client needs. Make sure the illustrator comprehends how soon you need the job to be concluded and how much they will get paid. Discuss the same terms with your employer/client and let them know how long it will take you to complete the entire design once the illustration is with you.
