In the 1820’s a garment known as the English topcoat became an essential change in the apparel of well-groomed men and to which mens leather coats owe their fame.

From the trench style to leather jackets, these outfits continue their attractiveness with men all over the globe. Prices have altered from five to twenty dollars in the eighteen hundreds to in excess of a thousand dollars at present for a fashionable custom garment.

The overcoat, boots, goggles, scarf and gloves became the accepted clothing for the man that owned an automobile. This outfit was the predecessor of today’s motorcycle jacket.

Hollywood did not waste time and jumped on the band wagon having their virtuous guys and unscrupulous guys alike all outfitted in leather.

Before long other new designs appeared on the scene, with styles such as pea coats, motorcycle jackets, flight jackets and more.

History and Hollywood maintain that mens leather coats were worn by heroes on the battle fields and on the screen.
