Making Raising Money Simpler

By: Erik Conster

Any non-profit group that has ever had to generate money is aware of the difficulties involved. Where to begin? What event will be the best choice?

The earliest priority of a fundraising organization is to set a financial goal. It may seem wonderful to work at earning "as much as possible" but each participant might have a clear-cut idea of when to stop. In determining the goal, it helps each person see an end.

The amount necessary will establish the event requirements. A small amount of money can be earned in a day with a bake sale or a raffle while a larger sum may take more events or a big and time consuming event.

Groups sometimes delay fundraisers because they lack volunteers or funds consequently making fundraising the only remaining item on their agenda. You cannot postpone raising money until you are financially desperate. Select a few events to turn into a yearly fundraising campaigns so everyone will be aware the event is on the calendar. This will help people who have busy schedules to plan ahead and it allows for donations or staggered budgeting.

When organizing a fundraiser remember to keep your program time brief. Some event organizers make an error in judgment by extending the event, believing that will improve their income, when the reverse is true. For the best fundraising results, the organizers should keep the event moving at a fast pace and generating excitement. If multiple activities are considered, plan them separately in order to keep the event moving and with a bigger turnout.

It is a must for the event organizers to offer the volunteers incentives while fundraising. The incentives can be as easy a “thank you” bag or t-shirt as a reminder of the fundraiser but they can also be as generous as a hard cash bonus or paid vacation for the highest earning volunteer.

Keep in mind that a volunteer and donor database ought to be maintained so that subsequent fundraiser events will be less effort and easier.
