Murder By Scumbag

By: John Merchant

On no account trust a court appointed lawyer in Virginia. In the court case of Earl Bramblett, a person the Commonwealth of Virginia murdered in 1997, he had two court appointed attorneys that were the most incompetent attorneys in Roanoke County. These lawyers were appointed by the judge that tried the case and that judge, Roy Willett, sat through the disgrace they called a trial while the accused was falsly convicted into the state's electric chair. Every rule of a defense was violated by these two attorneys, Mac Doubles and Terry Grimes. Evidence they should have objected to was let slide thereby sealing off any deliberation in the appeals courts. They either didn't know this and were inept, or they knew it and decided Bramblett was guilty and determined he wasn't worth protecting. Either way they are culpable. See the blog at http://allamosamine.blogspot.com and determine for yourself.
I have brought to print two novels about this case, one called Smoke and Murders and a sequel, Three Trailers Down. I wrote these trying to give some publicity to the fact that Earl Bramblett was falsly convicted by the Virginia State Police Investigator Barry Keesee and the Commonwealth Attorney at that time F.W. "Skip" Burkart. Burkart has since been selected Judge of General District Court in that jurisdiction. The blogs for these two books can be found at http://smokeandmurders.blogspot.com and http://threetrailersdown.blogspot.com ,please check these out.
The courts, lawyers and police are all on the same side in that particular portion of Southwest Virginia and consequently there are no adversarial trials. It is as a rule coming to a common conclusion and then the farce of a trial. The people there are terrified of any authority and things such as this trial and other wrongdoing are not reported and if they were the people are too cowed to protest. The daily newspaper, The Roanoke Times, report whatever press releases the politicians and law enforcement hand them without so much as a rewrite. The TV stations aren't about to endanger their revenue by reporting anything other than what they are given. There are no investigative reporters anywhere in that part of the state.
So what I'm saying is you need to avoid the Roanoke Valley like it has the plague. Unless you don't care how the courts, government and police protect you. Otherwise have at it. It is a picturesque part of the state, too bad it has the reputation of a lousy place to live.
