NASA's take on the 2012 End of the World

If a person is very serious about the predictions of the 2012 end of the world, one might wonder about what is the scientific community's take on these? During December the earth and the sun aligns approximately at the center of the galaxy, this yearly event has not been so far found to bring destruction to the planet. They also say that a change or a reversal of earth's magnetic field would do no harm to life forms on earth and should not be correlated with the movement of the earth's continents because they are entirely two separate phenomena.

Lastly, Solar storms, the sun's solar storms happen in a cycle that peaks every 11 years. NASA estimates that the next peak will be around 2012-2014 and it will not be different or enormous than the other cycles' peak.

Some would say that, for all we know, NASA could be covering up for the government so the public will remain calm and avoid world-wide panic just like in the movie 2012. Probably the question still remains on people's mind who are the conspirators and who to believe? Should we just disregard these prophecies and supposedly scientific claims that 2012 is the end of the world and just move on with the normal course of our lives?
