Preventing clogged drains

By: TR Scott

If you take caution as to what goes down your drains you should not have to worry about having a clogged drain or a sluggish drain. Try not to let hair, soap scum, coffee grounds, dried toothpaste, debris and grease down your drains as these will over time slow your drains and eventually cause clogging. There should be a screen over your openings to prevent hair and soap debris from entering your drains. Grease and coffee grounds should be thrown in the trash. Another measure you could take would be to run hot water down your drains after every use or you can try alternating cold and hot water for 3-4 minutes at a time. In the case of an obstruction try a bucket or large container of water and dump it fast down the drain...you may luck out and free the drain. An old method that still has merit is to try dish detergent down the drain to relieve some of the friction that may be causing the obstruction.
And of course, if all else fails, try a professional plumber, we hope you use one listed at localplumbersonline.com
