Removing Pet Stains and Odors Inside Your Home

By: John Cunningham

Stains caused by pets are really tricky. The reason? If you don’t clean the stain immediately (and clean it really well), the following could occur: 1) It will cause a really nasty odor. 2) Your pets will think that it is okay to relieve themselves at that spot again.

Thus, if you have a couple of pets milling around your home, it will really do you good to have a trusty pet stain-cleaning solution. Read on for more information.

To get rid of pet urine stains and odors, place a couple of paper towels or a rag over the stain assuming that the area is still wet. When you are no longer getting the towel or rag as you dab on the area with the stain, you can move on to the next step. The next step will require you to mix a solution of mild laundry detergent and warm water. Blot the stain with this solution and repeat until no sign of the stain is transferring to your paper towel or rag. If the stain hasn’t been completely remove yet, repeat the process with ammonia or white vinegar solutions. After applying these solutions, use paper towels to dry the area.

To get rid of stains and odors caused by pet feces, remove any excess that may still be there. Put a solution of ammonia and water over the stain and let the stain absorb it for a few minutes. Blot the area and repeat this process until the stain is gone. Use cold water to rinse the area before using paper towels or a rag to dry the said area. Sprinkle baking soda over the spot and leave it there for a couple of hours before vacuuming the area. This will help remove the odor.

To get rid of stains caused by pet vomit, you will have to, of course, scrape any of the residue away first. Afterwards, sprinkle salt over the stain and cover the entire mess with a towel and leave it for an hour or two. By then, the salt should’ve already absorbed most of the vomit and you can already vacuum the residue away. In case there’s still a stain remaining, you can use hydrogen peroxide to get rid of it. You can also use a liquid cleaner to rid the area of any lingering odors.

In the end, the best way for you to go is to train your pet well.
