The Surface Computer - details

By: Roberto Garabell

I was giving a short preview of the "Surface Computer" when the news first became popular. Well, now it's time to give some details about what the Surface Computer really is and what are the available features included in the commercial version.

As stated in the beginning, the device will only be available at first for hotels, casinos and other commercial ventures. This is partially due to high production costs ( costs generated by the usage of expensive materials such as holographic glass, etc) and partially due to the lack of usable software (but more on this later).

For now the price is somewhat prohibitive and it varies form $5,000 to $10,000. what you will get for that price is the actual machine along with a set of pre-installed applications, but the buyer will need to get his own software, one way or another. What does that mean? Simple. Machines owned by different clients will have different capabilities.

Speaking of capabilities, the functions you've seen in the demos, they're for real sure enough - but the devices you use (such as the camera and mobile phone you see in the video) must be labeled with code bars in order for the Surface Computer to recognize them. And how many devices you own are labeled in such a manner ?
