Trendy Mens Leather Coats

By: mas smitter

The mens bomber jacket may often be described as a flying or pilot's jacket. They were worn by aviators as far back as the First World War and the birth of the aeroplane. Aviators wore leather coats because as the aircraft gained altitude and acceleratedthe air became colder.

In 1915 aviators of the Royal Flying Corps wore elongated leather trench coats which were cumbersome and not conducive to the reason for which they were intended. The shorter jacket was invented in Britain in 1926.

It was not much later that the US Air Force started wearing the shorter coat which came only to the waist. The shorter coat was more practical for mobility and warmth

The original, or traditional designs were made of sheepskin with a strap on each shoulder held down with a button. They were convenient for carrying either a cap or gloves. They had a small fur collar, metal buttons and elastic at the waist and the wrists. The color was brown.

During the Second World War airplanes flew faster and higher and the atmosphere was colder reaching an altitude of twenty five thousand feet and a temperature of fifth eight degrees Fahrenheit. The leather coat was no longer practical.

Today the mens bomber jackets are a fashion statement with pockets for everything including a cell phone.

During the 40’s and 50’s they could often be seen worn by the top movie stars. Indeed movie stars still wear them, because they create an image of a handsome, rugged, hero.

There has always been a romance between men and their leather apparel and the mens bomber jackets with their rugged looks are no exception.
