g2mdlhlpx.exe

The g2mdlhlpx.exe process is classified as a Trojan virus. There are other versions of this file proven to be spyware applications or malware processes. The file size never exceeds 60 kilobytes. This threat is installed unknowingly into a user’s PC via the Internet, particularly through rogue anti-spyware pop-up advertisements.

It may import the following DLLs upon execution:

advapi32.dll
kernel32.dll
msvcrt.dll
ole32.dll
user32.dll
version.dll

The file g2mdlhlpx.exe can cause damage to your PC, particularly to the boot up and configuration processes of files. In fact, users who have encountered this threat report that their browsers started redirecting them to certain network addresses. This led to the total corruption of most infected computers.

This malicious file also has the capability to disable Windows firewall and automatic updates. It can infect only MS Windows platform versions (e.g. 95, 98, 2000, XP, ME, and NT) and not other OS environments.

Popular anti-virus software applications often fail in detecting the g2mdlhlpx.exe process because it disguises itself as a legitimate system file. It also hides inside the system registry.

However, the freeware called HijackThis can easily find it by scanning the system registry and listing all active processes onto a log file. Once it has been identified, spyware infection removal tools may be used. Good examples of effective applications that can remove this rogue file include ComboFix, BitDefender, XoftSpy, and AVG among others.
